The Adam Project

The Adam Project - The Art of VFX

The Adam Project is a story about time travel and family starring Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, Zoe Saldana, and Walker Scobell. The film was directed by Shawn Levy, who also directed Free Guy, The Internship, and is most well known for the Night at the Museum franchise. He is one of my favourite directors and he has either directed or been a part of some of my favourite comedies of all time. I loved this movie a lot more than I thought I would. I really only watched it for the cast and was not expecting that much, but this movie is really funny. I just happened to come across this film one day on Netflix, and I was excited to watch it. It isn’t an amazing film but I was pleasantly surprised by it and found it very enjoyable.

The casting for this film was really well done. This is an amazing group of actors and they really carry the film. I love Shawn Levy, but I probably wouldn’t have watched this film if it wasn’t for the casting. I was surprised by the talent Walker Scobell brought to this project, given this is his first movie. Scobell plays the 2022 (young Ryan Reynolds) version of Adam, and he was amazing in this film. I don’t know how they found a kid who resembles Ryan Reynolds and his character so well, they are really the same person in real life and in the movie.

I liked the reunion of Marvel actors in this film and more importantly, the 13 Going on 30 reunion of Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner. It was really sweet to see them play a couple again so many years later. 13 Going on 30 was one of those films that made their careers, so it shows how it really came full circle.

Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds have developed a really interesting dynamic. This film comes off the release of Free Guy this past summer, which was probably one of my favourite comedies of the whole year and now the announcement that Shawn Levy is set to direct the new Deadpool 3. This partnership is really fun and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

Overall, the movie isn’t anything special, the effects are okay, the story is not very unique, but I did really enjoy this film. It's a good family-friendly, feel-good type of film. If you like any of the actors then that makes it fun to watch them work together. Especially if you are a Marvel or 13 Going on 30 fan. I definitely recommend this movie for a family movie night or if you just need a laugh.
