Love Lies Bleeding

Bridgeport Village ::: Love Lies Bleeding

Love Lies Bleeding is... insane. It left me speechless by the end, which if anyone knows me is not an easy feat. This movie is bad shit crazy and I loved it. Kristen Stewart is incredible in this, this might be my favourite role that I have seen her do. Katy O Brian’s performance is fantastic in this film, I think this is the first time I have ever seen them in anything and they blew me away. The dynamic between Lou and Jackie is so exciting to watch because they are both so intense characters. You really don't know where their relationship is going to go next.

I loved the casting for this movie. A couple of surprise castings in the film were Jena Malone as Beth, Lou’s sister and Dave Franco as JJ her abusive husband. I honestly haven’t seen either of them in anything in a while, so it was a good surprise for these side characters. Ed Harris’s character in this movie is terrifying. I was genuinely petrified of his character throughout the entire film. I feel like you never know the full extent of his crimes and what he is capable of, which is where the terror comes from. One of the characters that I loved to hate but also felt bad for was Anna Baryshnikov’s character Daisy. This character is so annoying and obsessive towards Lou that you just want to yell at her through the screen to leave them alone. Yet, she becomes such an integral part of the plot in such an unexpected way. When she came to her untimely demise I was shocked. Like hand over mouth legs curled up in the theatre shocked.

Going into this movie, I didn’t know much about it other than the fact that it was an A24 movie with Kristen Stewart. So basically all I knew was that it was going to be gay and crazy. It reminded me of Bones and All, for those who have seen that. Warning to those who can’t handle gore, this may be one of the goreiest movies I have ever seen. I recommend going on an empty stomach. I luckily finished my snack before the previews even ended, because I don’t think I was going to be able to handle it. It's one of those just when you think this movie can’t get any more f***ed up, it does kind of movie.

I really loved the big queer love story of the film, even though they become SO toxic and downright psychopathic together. Their love arch is crazy, but for me, I think this was my first time seeing queer love between two women on the big screen like that, and that was really special for me to experience. Even if it did get absolutely out-of-pocket insane.

I don’t know how many times I can say this movie is insane, crazy, or wild in one review. I’ve seen some bad shit crazy movies, but this for sure was one of the most insane movies I have ever seen. The plot twists just keep coming and they totally made their own path and threw away every and any movie-making formula. It's so unique and crazy and I can’t stop thinking about it. Highly recommend giving this a watch in the theatres. Take away: Kristen Stewart, gay, murder, bodybuilding, blood.
