Deadpool & Wolverine
Ahhhh it's finally here! I have very mixed reviews on this film. I laughed, I cried, I was confused and I don’t really know what the heck I just watched. I loved all of the jokes about Canada, my favourite being the nod to the Oscars Will Smith speech. I also liked all of the digs at Disney/MCU/Fox.
I love the Deadpool movies and all of their crazy cameos, but honestly there were just so many cameos and references to pop culture that it was too much going on. It was so distracting from the main plot and I didn’t even understand half of them. It doesn’t help that I haven’t seen Deadpool 1 & 2 in a long time and have not caught up on my Marvel series yet. I also never really got into the X men movies growing up so I didn’t understand all of the connections. I liked the addition of Wolverine but I didn’t get the hype going into it. I just like Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds working together.
I am also super over all of the MCU Multiverse stuff. I thought the Time Variance Authority and Deadpool crossover would be more interesting but it was a bit all over the place with the “void”. Emma Corrin as the villain, Cassandra Nova was excellent, they are such a talented actress and their performance blew me away.
The soundtrack was fantastic. I loved the use of Avril Lavigne’s song “I’m With You” in the car scene. The car fight scene was so well done and probably my favourite scene in the whole movie.
That ugly dog was so cute. Favourite character by far. The Chris Evans Fantastic 4 Cameo was awesome. That cameo was so funny and very well done. I also loved Jennifer Garner joining the MCU. She is one who I would love to see on screen in the MCU alongside Mark Ruffalo (for the 13 going on 30 fans). I hope they find some way to bring her back in.
The characters really saved the movie but the plot wasn’t that good. Overall, I think the movie fell below my expectations. It was still funny and a good time at the theater. I just don’t think it was as good as it could have been. Marvel is just not where it used to be. I don’t think this is the “movie of the summer” that I thought it would be.
