The Wild Robot
Omg I sobbed.
For those who don’t know, The Wild Robot follows a robot that crash lands on a deserted island during a heavy storm. Roz the robot must learn and navigate life on the island and all its different creatures. The animals think its a monster here to kill them, Roz just wants to help them. On one of Roz’s hard nights on the island they crash onto a bird’s nest killing the mother bird and the baby goose eggs. All but one. Roz takes it upon herself to raise the Gosling who has hatched and grown attached to the robot. With the help of a possum family and a fox that may or may not want to eat the baby goose, Roz raises Brightbill the goose as his mother. Teaching Brightbill how to eat, swim, and fly so that he can fly south for the winter with the other birds of his kind. Upon Brightbill’s return, Roz tries to signal to their home to be brought back to where they belong, ending in a robot vs animals battle in the wilderness.
I really did not think I would get that emotional at a Dreamworks movie. For kids. This movie is absolutely adorable and the story is so lovely and original.
The animation is incredible. I am glad that they kept with this style following Puss and Boots 4. I think it looks so beautiful and adds to the story. This has to win best animated feature at the Oscars or we riot.
The cast of voice actors is stacked. Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Catherine Ohara, Mark Hammil, Kit Connor and Stephanie Hsu. I never thought I would hear Kit Connor play a baby goose or Mark Hamil voice a bear but here we are.
I left this movie just wanting to hug my mom and thank her for all she has done for me. What a powerful movie with a message that kind of hits you over the head but I loved it.
I don’t think I can bring myself to watch this again and go through the emotional turmoil. Again this is apparently a kids movie. My friends who had seen this before were very adamant that I see it, and I am glad that I listened. I highly recommend giving this movie a watch, it is truly a movie for everyone.
