Venom: The Last Dance
Yikes. I kind of went to see this movie on a whim because there was nothing else to see in theatres. I loved the first Venom movie but they really went downhill from there.
The plot was boring and not interesting. I still don’t understand the whole cortex thing. Basically for some reason only Venom and Eddie have this glowing orb thing inside of them because Eddie died in one of the last films and Venom brought him back. This has apparently never happened before and somehow that made a glowy orb that this witch guy in space wants so that he can be brought back and take over the world. Ya sure why not.
The pacing was terrible, the first half of the movie is too fast, the second half of the movie is painfully slow. It also wasn’t nearly as funny as the past two films either.
I think what I loved about other Venom movies was Eddie trying to navigate society with an alien symbiote sharing his body. This movie had him in the desert, in a river, and area 51, so he really didn’t have to go through that as much. This is why I loved the Las Vegas scenes because it reminded me of the essence of the first movie.
Then the fact alone that Venom goes into his full form just to dance with Miss. Chen and risk this unkillable alien creature finding him is ridiculous. That is honestly the weirdest way to advance a plot I have ever seen. I also don’t understand why (spoiler alert here) Venom dies. It feels so unnecessary when they’ve established that they could keep the cortex hidden very easily. I knew one of them was going to die the whole time, and you spend the movie just waiting for it to happen.
Throughout the movie they talk about how Eddie wants a family and a normal life. At the end of the movie they have a series of flashbacks of Eddie and Venom’s time together to “MEMORIES” BY MAROON 5. Ya let that sink in. Alternatively it would have been nice if they went forwards in time or maybe showed Eddie finally getting his chance to have a family and move on the way he always wanted to. Or at least get him on that track instead of just walking around New York aimlessly to MEMORIES??
On that note, this was the worst soundtrack I have heard in a long time. I don’t know why we needed a Venom horse running to “Don’t Stop Me” by Queen. This is just not the movie I hoped it would be.
